Our eleventh episode was shorter than usual but long on sonic surprises. Both artists incorporated analog instrumentation in their approach to electronic music.
First up was Peat Biby, a multi-instrumentalist, who wowed the audience from behind a drum set. Configured with sensors, each drum triggered electronic sounds entirely divorced from percussion. The performance was unusual, but surprisingly musical, and had the audience buzzing about it afterwards.
In similar fashion, jazz flutist Nicole Mitchell showed her skills as an improviser and electronica artist. Using loop pedals and other gadgets, Nicole took us on an aural adventure guided solely by voice and breath.
